Zug Zwang
Zug Zwang is a mobile vendor cart that relocates each day, invoking the chess tactic where any move worsens one’s position. Small traders in the shadow economy often face a similar bind—forced to move by gentrification, regulation, or precarity, each displacement narrowing their possibilities.
Created during a residency at Klub Solitaer, the cart hosted games of chess with bread pieces, encouraging encounters and conversations with the residents of Chemnitz, where play became a way to share time, stories, and experiences.
